Religious Signs

The assumption is a teaching of the Catholic church about what happened to Mary, the mother of Jesus, after she died. Just as he entered a new form of life, so did she. She is traditionally depicted as being taken up into heaven, just as Jesus was. The upward direction of the last part of the sign indicates this (spatially the sign for heaven occupies an upper space).
